Adaptations

Organization
Everyone functions better when the things they need are organized and within easy reach. Changes in our physical ability may affect what we need or what areas can easily access. Organizing your living space to accomodate these changes is one key to remaining self-reliant.
Safety
When your home is set up to be navigated safely and easily, you'll be able to save your energy for the things you really want to do. This modified bathroom illustrates a sink with space below for wheelchair or walker access, and a well-placed "grab bar" for safety. These modest adaptations can simplify daily personal care. Balance can be affected by a variety of illnesses and conditions – grab bars can also be installed in the bath or shower area.
Accessibility
Remaining self-reliant is much easier when the appliances and storage you use are within easy reach. Broad accessways and front-loading laundry machines with controls in the front make the area in this photo wheel-chair friendly.
